Taking Care of your iPad:
Apple Care and Repair Options, tips to save battery life

Picture
Newer iPad provided by the school* are covered by AppleCare in case of accidental damage. This cover enables an iPad to be repaired up to two times, with the student liable for the first ¥4,400 or so of the cost. The insurance covers the remainder of the cost.
A damaged iPad, particularly one with a cracked or broken screen, should be repaired as soon as possible, to avoid further damage to the internal components. Students wishing to have an iPad repaired under AppleCare may visit the Apple Store in Shinsaibashi directly (Apple has a list of which iPads are covered by the programme), or can visit the Tech Support office on the mezzanine level of the library.

However, for personal iPads or other iOS devices that are not covered by this, or have fallen out of warranty
*, or have been damaged a third time, there are a few local organizations that will repair broken home buttons or shattered screens in a few days and at a reasonable price.

SOIS has no relationship with any of these organisations, nor do we recommend any of them; this information is for your reference only. Staff have used some of these places to repair personal iPods and iPads, however.

  • iPhone.co.jp in Shinsaibashi replaced the glass screen on an iPad for ¥16,000. The repairs took two days. They also replaced a faulty home button on an iPhone for ¥6,000. Check their website for current pricing.
  • Smahospital Shinsaibashi offer similar services at similar or even lower rates.

* iPads numbered xxxx to xxxx do not have AppleCare warranty. Any damage to these iPads will need to be repaired at regular cost.
